Update: After my “starter kit” week, I was down three pounds, to 229. Goal weight is approximately 212.
Tonight’s workout was a cardio routine from P90 – Sweat A. For those who don’t know, Beachbody first entered the national consciousness with a VHS Tape workout called Power 90. This workout involved six workouts and a day off. The six days alternated between a cardio day and a resistance day (dumbbells and body weight exercises), with the wickedly named Ab Ripper added every other day. Beachbody upped their game massively with the next entry in the series, the world famous P90X. Many other workouts came after, one of which was P90 – an updated version of the original Power 90, with a lot of new moves, but following a similar 1, 2, 1, 2, 1 format, with Saturday Special and, of course, Ab Ripper every other day.
I work out in my garage most times, and this is the time of year when it is definitely better known as the Pain Cave and/or the Sweat Lodge! The temperature for Monday’s workout was 112 – it was kinda like a sauna in there!
NOTE: word of caution – I LIKE working out in the heat, but it is 100% NOT recommended for most people, especially if you are just starting out. I worked my way up the ladder of heat tolerance and so should anyone else who plans to exercise in the heat. Also, and ALWAYS, it’s important to stay hydrated.
Anyway, it felt good to get after it again with a nice cardio routine. Sweat A (level 1, the first four weeks) consists of a HIIT-like cardio minute, followed by a less intense boxing/MMA punching/kicking move for a minute. There are several moves back to back like that then, after a short break, you repeat the whole thing. I was definitely breathing hard and sweating buckets, so it was a GREAT return to more active working out. Followed up with a jump in the pool and some light stretching exercises
Good start! Peace and Blessings all. Let me know if I can help you with your BODi/Beachbody fitness!
